3 Key Chiropractic Principles to Understand

There are 3 foundational chiropractic principles that explain what chiropractic is and how it works. These principles are the basis of all chiropractic techniques and philosophies, so understanding them will help you decide if chiropractic care is right for you, and how you personally can benefit from chiropractic adjustments.

1. The Body’s Self-Healing and Regulating Abilities

The first chiropractic principle is based upon the idea that the body is self-healing and self-regulating, and continuously restores balance across all its systems. All systems of the body work together so they can actively repair and restore this imbalance. Self-regulating means that the body continues to have harmony (balance) within itself. This balance allows these systems to function at their best at all times. Regulating is proper maintenance or operation of a gland or tissue. What this means is if you would eat food your body would I just if you would get cold your muscles with shiver to create heat and if you would cut yourself accidentally the body will heal that wound this is what self-healing and regulating means.

2. The Nervous System is the Master Controller of the Body

The second chiropractic principal is that the nervous system is the master controller of the entire body. The nervous system controls and coordinates all functions, glands, organs, and tissues of the body. The body’s ability for the nervous system and its INNATE (God given ability) design is to coordinate and control every breath, heartbeat, muscle contraction and smile. There is not a single function of the body that your nervous system doesn’t control.

3. Misalignment in the Spine causes dysfunction in the Nervous System

The third chiropractic principle is based upon proper alignment of the spinal column. This proper alignment allows for all of these functions and systems of the body to operate at their best level. When the spine becomes misaligned or Subluxated, this causes interference in the nervous system. This Subluxation decreases the body's ability to move, function and control all glands, organs and tissues. This misalignment can cause pain, swelling/inflammation, spasms, dysfunction and decreased motion in the area, when the body is trying to function at its best level. Chiropractic adjustments restore this function of the body by a spinal alignment allowing and improving the proper function of the nervous system on all these glands, organs and tissues.
