Why don't my Adjustments hold or Last Longer?

Well, this answer can be quite simple and complex at the same time. Always remember, that a chiropractic judgment is not a permanent fix to a misalignment of the spine. We can get subluxations or misalignments every day and this depends on physical, emotional, mental and even Technological stress is that we placed on our body every day.

The length of time between your adjustments is dependent on how your body can stay in proper alignment. For some, it could be one week and the others it could be after three months. This is dependent upon your lifestyle, the overall health of your spine, and the soft/muscular tissues that are supporting and stabilizing you. So, what are my options to make my body hold the adjustments for longer periods of time. Reduce stress,  decrease soft tissues tension around your misalignment, practice good posture and exercise. So, let's talk a little bit about each one of these.

Decreasing stress.  I worked out all my life and there's an old saying about getting in shape… you cannot work out a poor diet. And this goes the same for stress. If your life is full of stress, your body will begin to break yourself down. Your body does not know the difference between emotional, physical or even mental stress. All stressors are processed the same way. These muscles tighten your spine, restrict your blood flow, increase blood pressure,  breaths become shallow, and your posture becomes even altered. If you're looking to get the longest amount of time between your adjustments, find a better way to deal with stress that you have in your daily life or even remove the stressors entirely if possible.

Some of the best stress managers that I have use myself is exercise. Every day is do some type of movement-based exercise as I have found a lot easier to reduce stress by exercising. Practice relaxation/ breathing techniques which may include yoga, tai chi, Wim Hoff or just breathing exercises. Getting the proper amount of sleep is not only essential for your health but also essential to manage mental clarity with stress. Improve your diet, feed your body the proper nourishment and foods so that it's able to cope with stress much more effectively.

Fixing the soft tissue. When your muscles tighten from stress, these tissues which include muscles, tendons, ligaments and even the vertebral disc of the vertebrae become restricted. When you get adjusted, the soft tissues adapt to your body being out of alignment tries to pull the vertebrae back into the old position. Chiropractors address this issue by using what specific posture exercises, tissue muscle massage and strengthening/stretching exercises which allows you to hold your alignment much more effectively.

Good posture.  Poor posture is a worldwide problem due to the increased required technology in all ages not only today, but it was in the past as our parents used to tell us to stand up straight. Posture can be the window to your health and your spine.  When your spine is in proper alignment the proper kyphotic/lordosis curves allow the body to hold his self in the proper alignment and become more stable, stronger absorbing gravitational forces easier. When your body is misaligned or subluxation, we lose these spinal curves which makes a lot easier to become misaligned in the first place. Doing postural training exercises can improve your spinal curve and decrease how often you get so misaligned in the first place.

Lastly is exercise. Your body is designed to move with a constantly and evolving ability to change and adapt towards the demanded on it. I myself work out every day for a minimum of 30 to 60 minutes. This exercise may include Yoga, Chi Gong, resistance, cardio and stretching exercises. I do feel it's important to always change your routine so that your body never gets used to the same exercises as I said earlier. We are designed to constantly and regularly change our fitness program so that our body doesn't get stagnant.  So, there you have it, this is how do you hold your adjustments for longer periods of time reduce stress, get a massage, stand up straight and move as much as you can every day.
