Stanley Steamer Had Two Great Falls

As Stanley Steamer went out to get his paper as part of his daily routine, he did not see the black ice and fell, landing on his knee and hip. A few days later after a very large snowstorm, he misjudged his footing and fell backwards, landing on his back and hitting his head (My mother is locking him in the house for the winter). The best part about this is that Stan is my father. He knows that the importance of regular chiropractic adjustments are not only to maintain his health, but also to keep things moving and help him heal faster and more efficiently.

What my father has also learned over his 40+ years of Chiropractic care is that once you have an injury, it is of extreme important to get checked and get the spine realigned. It is a lot easier for the body to heal when it is put back in alignment especially after a slip, fall or even an accident.  The publication Wound Healing: Alternatives in Management showed that within a two-week period, the body will form permanent scar tissue in the injured area causing joint breakdown, poor blood supply and arthritic conditions in the future. This is no different than you driving down the road and hitting a pothole and knocking your tire out of alignment and then having it wear the tread unevenly for many thousands of miles.

As the snow and ice in winter covers the TriState (Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana) landscape, many of our patients have fallen on the ice and realized the importance of getting their spine checked as quickly as possible post injury. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in four Americans aged 65 and higher fall each year. One study in The Epidemiology of Fall-Related Injuries Among Older Persons found that about half of those persons 65 and older living at home who are hospitalized for a fall injury are not discharged to their home. These falls, whether it's a broken hip or wrist would change course of healing especially as they age. It's a lot harder to heal when your bones are not as strong, and your healing capabilities are not as efficient. Even with children, statistics show that the average kid for the age of eight years old will fall 2500 times and of these falls many of them will throw the spine out of alignment.

This shows the importance of getting your spine examined and adjusted to allow it to heal properly, restore proper motion in the spine, and health in the body. It doesn't matter your age, whether you are younger, middle-aged, or are in your golden years, to have your spine checked monthly for your regular adjustments. This is especially important though if you happen to be involved in a slip, fall, or minor accident.
